"I WAS THE FIRST IN MY FAMILY TO GO TO THE UNIVERSITY" Samira Bawumia.

Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana H.E Samira Bawumia has disclosed that she defied several stereotypes growing up and being the first in her family to enter the university was key amongst them. She made this disclosure in a presentation at the Launch of the Coaliation Of People Against Sexual And Gender Based Violence And Human Practices (COPASH) on Tuesday August 14,2018 at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel.

She further mentioned that she was pressured by members of her extended family to get married at a very young age and wasn't suppose to pursue higher education contrary to her parents ideology. I however had parents who were in support of my dream of pursuing higher education and going the furtherest I wanted to,the pressure was only coming form the extended family, she added. COPASH for short is an initiative from the stables of the Samira Empowerment And Humanitarian Projects with support from the UNFPA designed to address the issue of Sexual and Gender based violence across the country and finding pragmatic solutions to a phenomenon which has become an evil to human rights.
